A BODYFORGE SALUTE TO THE ATHLETE AND THE MAN WHO WAS GILLY

A truly sad day for Maltese bodybuilding. One of our brightest physique stars is with us no more.

With great sadness, we salute the passing of Gilbert Zammit, one of Malta’s top bodybuilders, a true gentleman and a great ambassador for our sport.

Judging by the outpouring of grief to his untimely demise, one can easily see that Gilbert was a man that made a difference. Both as a force to be reckoned with to his fellow competitors on the national scene and also by touching the hearts and lives of the many people who knew him.

It’s always tough to write about the passing of a brother in iron, but when it strikes one of our own this closely and this suddenly, it just leaves you speechless.

I was not a close friend of Gilbert’s but I have spoken to him on a few occasions and his gentle manner and insightfulness were always apparent, as was his natural kindness and warmth, and his ready, easy smile.

A gentle giant with a quiet manner, he has left an indelible mark on Maltese bodybuilding, as well as the people around him.

A man whose motto was “Never give up!”

Godspeed, Gilly. You left us far too soon. Gone, but never forgotten. You will be missed by many. Thank you for all the emotions you gave us under the bright lights of the bodybuilding stage.

Our most sincere condolences go out to his family at this trying time in their lives.
