The Simple Solutions Are Often The Best Ones
THE ONE WAY TO BEAT THIS CORONAVIRUS
Hi everyone,
Donatello here, Master Coach and Founder & CEO of The BodyForge, Malta’s only functional coaching facility.
At a time when everyone and their pet hamster is running into walls senselessly scared of the coronavirus, we want to stand up and be counted, while providing a place of calm in this sea of absolute madness.
Let’s start things off.
Rule #1 – Please STOP Being Scared Of This Virus
You heard that right.
Stop being scared.
When you distance yourself from the fearmongering taking place on social media, mostly done by people who would not recognize the coronavirus if it bit them in the ass, then you will realize that this is one virus that should not scare you.
It does not scare me.
Yes, I am concerned, of course.
What concerns me is the welfare of our elderly, those with co-morbidities that make them susceptible, the frail, and the disenfranchised.
What concerns me greatly is the loss of reason that is fuelling rolling waves of irrational fear across our country.
What concerns me is the panic that is causing people to go out and raid supermarket shelves bare, the N95 masks (including surgical masks that do f-all to prevent infection) that are being swiped from hospitals by people who only care about themselves.
What concerns me is the sudden and inexplicable need for aircraft carrier supplies of rolls of toilet paper, a butt-cleaning urge so bad, people are willing to fight tooth and nail for it (how much does a person actually plan to crap in the next few weeks anyway?).
Yes, I am concerned by stock-piling for a catastrophe that does not exist.
Because with that same stroke, those doing this are making it difficult, if not impossible, for those people who really need those items, to find them.
I am concerned at how people are distancing themselves from each other, isolating themselves from everything and everyone, and plugging themselves into a world of social media that is further fuelling the flames of insanity.
I am concerned about those who are being told not to go to work, and the anxiety they must be going through.
I am concerned about people who came here from other countries to work, who contributed to our economy and paid their taxes, and who are now being told to go home, as if they were some sort of disposable commodity.
I am concerned about the events being cancelled – the weddings, the baptisms, the family celebrations – and how many memories are being lost that can never be replaced.
I am concerned about the worry people are being put through, when they really do not need to.
I am seriously concerned about the depression and suicide rates that are bound to spike horribly during this debacle and for a long time following it.
And I am concerned about what I will tell my children.
Not with my words. But with my actions. With what I do and how I behave during these troubling times.
Will I simply take care of just myself and the ones closest to me, giving in to suspicion and irrationality …or will I reign in reason and altruism, and take care of as many people as I can?
I would like to think I am a better man.
Make It Easy
Look.
Covid-19 is an influenza virus.
It’s real. It’s happening.
Expect it to touch you or someone you know.
But keep this in mind.
Most healthy people are just getting the flu for a week and recovering.
Honestly, that’s it.
Yes, the virus might mutate and might present new problems, but so far, it’s beatable.
They have already beaten it in China, where this all started.
At this time, your best bet of beating this virus are some simple rules.
Wash your damn hands. Soap and water beat hand sanitizers every day of the week.
Keep some distance from the susceptible groups. If they are inaccessible, call your elderly family members or those who are sick. Skype them. That’s what your damn fancy mobile phone is for. Not selfies.
If they are within driving distance, go outside their windows and holler. Throw them kisses. Make them smile.
It works perfectly.
Then, you need to simply bullet-proof your immune system.
That means keeping up your training routines (or start already if you’re a couch potato), eating healthy food, and supplementing properly, especially with Vitamin C, zinc and magnesium.
I’ll be damned if a virus is able to teach most in a few weeks what I have been trying to do for three decades.
Yes, simple measures like this are the best course of action to take in a time like this.
Beat ignorance with education.
Beat fear with calm.
Beat anger with reason.
