Bodybuilding Hits the Big Screen – Again!!
Back in 1977, a little-known niche sport called bodybuilding walked out onto the world stage.
It was borne aloft on the mighty shoulders of Arnold, Franco, Mike, Lou, Serge and several other guys who possessed the physique of modern Greek Gods.
Physiques that apparently anyone could build in a gym if they put in enough time and dedication.
That gritty little documentary called “Pumping Iron” changed the world and turned millions of people into gym rats and meat heads, as well as mainstream fitness enthusiasts.
That was exact 36 years ago.
Now, on September 20th, 2013, bodybuilding will once again return to the silver screen.
This time, it will be on the equally mighty shoulders of 7 of the best bodybuilders in the world today – Hidetaga Yamagishi, Ben Pakulski, Branch Warrren, Kai Greene, Roelly Winklaar, Dennis Wolf, and the reigning Mr. Olympia, Phil “The Gift” Heath.
“Generation Iron”, promises to take the viewer into the lives of these champions, on a level never before documented.
It will show us the truth behind what these athletes go through to achieve the unbelievable physical development needed at the highest echelons of what is probably the toughest sport in the world.
The world has certainly changed since 1977.
The fitness industry, which did not even exist in the late seventies, is now a multi-billion dollar behemoth that affects the lives of countless people around the world.
Fitness publications in all shapes and forms and covering just about all niches fight for space on the bookshelves of major and minor outlets.
Today’s supplement industry commands the attention of some of the world’s best scientists and researchers, and draws the respect (or the fear) of the world’s major pharmaceutical companies.
The era into which “Generation Iron” is striding, is definitely a different one from almost half a decade ago, and this change is owed, in no undue manner, to the huge impact “Pumping Iron” left on the world.
I can still remember the awe I felt when I saw “Pumping Iron” for the first time back in the late seventies.
It truly changed my life and was one of the formative factors that nudged me in the direction I follow today.
So it’s going to be fun to see what kind of influence, if any, Generation Iron will have on both the existing fans, and the potential new ones it can make.
I am definitely going to be first in line to see it.
Who else is coming?
I would love to hear your comments and expectations about this one, so bring it on!
