BIG MIKE MATARAZZO – IN MEMORIAM
With sadness, we mark the passing of Mike Matarazzo, on August 16th 2014.
Mike, who suffered from complications from an earlier triple heart bypass surgery, was being considered for a heart transplant at Stanford University, California.
Known for his showstopping biceps and calves, the “Big Guns” from Boston was a man who lived for his fans.
He truly cared about his fan base and would never turn down an opportunity for a photo with anyone who asked for it, even on show day (try getting that from most pros these days).
The proof of the pudding was to check out the line of people waiting to talk to Mike at some show or expo. It would be by far the longest of even the top pros. And when you got to talk to Mike, you’d realize why – the man would talk to you like you had been friends for years. He made you feel comfortable, he gave you your time, he made you feel appreciated.
Being Mike’s fan was special.
Indeed, the outpouring of grief in reaction to his death from his supporters worldwide show that Big Mike still lives in the hearts of his fans even today.
Even though he gradually moved completely out of the limelight, he will never be forgotten by those of us who remember the bodybuilding era of the 90s.
Mike, you were truly one of a kind.
We will miss you.
Thank you for the thrills, the incomparable gun shots, the amazing calves, and the lickety split tongue poses.
The BodyForge salutes you, Big Mike Matarazzo.
