It’s not a title. It’s a mark of respect. And this is how you earn it.
THEY CALL ME “COACH”
Yes, they call me “Coach”.
And I take that title very seriously.
There are a lot of versions of what a coach is, but, after more than 25 years in this game, I have gradually formulated my own.
And I would love to share with you what I believe my job is as a coach.
A lot of people tend to use the word “coach” very loosely. They think it is a title you earn through qualifications, or sometimes even just something you call yourself when you think you know enough to show someone how to lift weights.
For me, being called “Coach” is something you earn through respect.
Being a coach is something very distinct, something a world apart from counting reps, giving diets, or just exercising people.
Please note that this is my definition, my own personal take on coaching. To each his own.
So these are my coaching guidelines.
As a coach, I believe that my job is to remove people’s struggles.
I am here to ease the pain involved in getting from A to B.
My job is to remove confusion and introduce clarity.
Confusion is what kills progress.
As a coach, I remove the clutter and provide the freedom of open space.
Clutter grinds you down to a halt.
I take away the unnecessary complexity and bring about the beauty of simplicity.
Simplicity makes it easier and faster to progress along your journey.
In other words, as a coach, I walk with you.
I accompany you along your journey.
Walking with someone who not only knows the way, but knows how to show you the way, can be the pivotal point between success and failure.
I shine a light so you can see what you need to see and stop fearing what you cannot see. The unknown is one of the biggest stumbling blocks most people face.
I provide the tools to learn what you need to know so you can experience what you need to experience.
It’s about skill. Passion. Communication. Courage.
And, corny as it may sound in this jaded world of ours, it’s about love.
True coaching bridges the difference between existing and living.
Great coaching is all about helping people thrive instead of just survive.
