In Memory Of Greg Kovacs
GODSPEED GREG
A Salute To “The Strongest Bodybuilder Alive”
We are sad to report that the Canadian Mass Monster, Greg Kovacs, passed away earlier today, reportedly of heart failure.
He was just 44 years old.
I remember when Greg first lumbered in on the bodybuilding scene in the 90’s.
Clocking in at 420 pounds off season, Greg was simply the biggest bodybuilder ever in the history of the sport.
At well over 6 feet tall, he towered over the his competition, sporting arms over 25 inches, a barrel of a chest at 70 inches and the legs of a colossus at an amazing 35 inches.
He is also credited with some mind boggling lifts that gave him his moniker, and which still crown him as the strongest bodybuilder in history.
He could power up a 500-pound shoulder press, destroy a 700-pound bench press (for 2 reps), crank out bent-over row with 500 pounds, and blast out an unbelievable 2,025-pound on the leg press!
He was also a columnist at Muscle Insider and at Rx Muscle.
Greg retired from competitive bodybuilding in 2005 to set up his own business lecturing and coaching competitive athletes.
Regardless of whatever rumours and speculations that will undoubtedly spring out regarding the cause of his death, as well as his extreme size, we would just like to remember him as a bodybuilder who pushed the mass monster dimensions to the absolute limit.
I prefer to remember him at his win at the Canadian Nationals in 1996, where I think he actually looked at his best ever.
Godspeed Greg Kovacs.
