EXPENSIVE IS AS EXPENSIVE DOES
“I don’t have time!”
No one does, dear. Time is made, not found.
“Buying healthy stuff is too expensive!”
Of course it is.
“I walk for exercise!”
Yes and it really shows you are.
“I’ll do it tomorrow!”
I’ll write that down in stone.
So…any of these sound familiar to you?
If they do, we have a serious problem.
Check these stats out.
In Malta and Gozo alone, by the age of 9-10 years, 48% of boys and 40% of girls are already overweight or obese.
By the time they are just 35 years old, this will have increased to over 60% for men, and 45% for women.
I don’t know about you, but as far as I am concerned, these figures are terrifying.
Obesity isn’t wine.
It sure as hell doesn’t get better with age.
And obesity brings with it some scary ass friends too.
High blood pressure. Diabetes. Cholesterol. Cancer. Et al.
Cold blooded killers, every single one of them.
Pretty sobering stuff.
Yet, statistics show that most of us really couldn’t care less.
That’s right. Who gives a shit?
Our health (or lack thereof) is of absolutely no concern to us.
We are getting fatter and sicker every damn year.
And we are dying in huge numbers to prove our nonchalance and our bravado.
Because it “costs too much” to stay healthy.
ARE YOU PART OF THIS CROWD?
Yet, these same people who thumb their noses at their own health, do have their own purchasing priorities.
It’s not a question of time, because we do find time for what we WANT to do.
It’s not a question of money either, because we always find a way to get the money we need to spend money on things we crave.
We absolutely MUST have that brand new smartphone, with the large touchscreen, the assorted apps and all the blinking UFO lights.
When what most of us do with a phone is just make phone calls. Or text one another.
We spend a ton of money to have a nice, flashy, new car.
When a second hand one would be way more practical. Not to mention a lot cheaper.
We buy giant TV screens we don’t really need.
When we could spend that time outside in the open air, doing something fun.
We spend inordinate amounts of money on clothes designed by some hoity toity name, just for bragging rights.
When cheaper clothes get the job done exactly the same way.
We follow fashion like our life depended on it.
When those clothes were really designed for stick insects, not our…errr…generously built ass.
(In other words, you look like a complete idiot wearing them, sorry – and yes, it’s about time someone told you too.)
We shell out recklessly just to have designer bling adorning us.
Probably in the vague and senseless hope that it makes us “better” people.
In the immortal words of Freddie Mercury “is this the world we created?”
THE TWO SIDES OF THE COIN
OK. Look here.
If truth be told, should you want to feel good looking like a stuffed sausage in a designer pair of hipster jeans with a crazy oversize pair of Golche and Dubbana shades covering your face, then all the more power to you.
There is nothing intrinsically wrong about that (although I have definite problems with the principles behind it).
But NOT at the expense of your health, man!!
EVER!!
If you are willing to spend €400 on a smartphone, then think €5 for a packet of organic quinoa is too much, boy, have you got a fucking serious problem in your head.
And it’s all the more pathetic because the more overweight someone gets, the more bling and fashion prone they seem to become.
We are suddenly the David Copperfields of misdirection.
Talk about barking up the wrong tree.
So how about waking the fuck up and drinking a nice tall glass of freshly uncorked Chateau Head Out of Your Ass?
It’s a whole lot cheaper to be healthy, than to get sick.
Or die, for that matter.
Yet many of us are doing just that.
We do not care. We are lulled into not caring.
Then we scramble for damage control when it is too late.
Health Prevention System?
Oh give me a break!!! All we have is a Disease Management System.
Which is exactly what pharmaceutical companies want, at the end of the day.
They only make money when you are sick – so, you better fucking believe they WANT you to be sick.
It’s a seriously damn stupid setup – yet society is not really doing much about it.
Oh, I know they say they are…but really, what are they doing?
Society is run by money. Not by what benefits you.
Let’s see…
Organic, healthy food is hard to find and a more expensive option to purchase.
Junk food is readily available and extremely cheap – duh!
Our regular foods are infused with chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
Why? Because it makes the companies more money to grow things faster and cheaper.
Well, guess where all that crap in our food is ending up?
Practically everything we eat is artificial.
Processed food is the accepted norm.
It’s either man made, comes in a bag or in a can.
We spend most of our waking time on our ass at work.
Or on our ass when we get back to the pad.
Then we go to sleep.
Sleeping time is self incriminating, so I’m not even bothering.
Very few of us have physically demanding jobs.
And how many of you sedentary souls are engaging in serious physical activity at least three times a week?
Yeah!! Exactly what I thought!
We are a bunch of seriously lazy bastards!
Lazy, diseased bastards, I must add.
And then we wonder why we are out of shape, then get fat, then get sick?
FACT: The human body is designed to be worked!
And worked HARD!
You are not going to change thousands of years of evolution just because your lazy ass feels like it.
Something’s gotta give.
And give it is.
Every year, countless thousands die at a young age due to obesity related diseases.
That’s “DIE”.
One way ticket.
Last time I checked, death wasn’t negotiable.
So what exactly is it going to take to get YOU to realize that unless you do something about it NOW, you are going to end up being just another statistic?
Just keep this in mind!
What you decide to do now, is entirely up to YOU!
Your choice.
There are always only two choices.
No gray areas (however much you like to believe there are).
No status quo.
If you are not progressing, you are regressing.
SO…MAKE YOUR CHOICE!
Whatever you choose, it will change your life – forever!
I made my choice 22 years ago.
And I rock it like it hurricane.
Every damn day.
The great thing about my choice is that I can help YOU get where you want to go.
In no uncertain way.
Who’s with me?
Have a great week, everyone!

I hear you, Donatello! I’m no fitness buff, but I’m healthier than 90% of folks out there. And I’m carrying for my father, who hasn’t given a crap about his health for decades. And it shows. The only reason he has lived so long is that I took him in and go through a lot of trouble to help him manage his blood sugar, and actually make him eat vegetables. (At least I try.) But he still doesn’t care about his health. He wants to take a pill and keep eating whatever he wants. LIke today at the senior center, God knows what he ate, but his blood sugar was twice normal. And I’m about at the end of my rope, soon I will give up and put him in an adult family home and when his savings run out (quickly) the taxpayers (us) will be paying for someone to give him meds and/or insulin shots and manage his mess. Our personal choices affect more than just us.
